Case Study: KidsMedHub

Project Overview

A mobile and web app for over-the-counter (OTC) medication that provides pieces of information about drug administration, store availability and location, drug facts, and a feature of a walk-in clinic directory that will help the audience to get immediate care should they need based on their location.

The product:
A mobile and web app for over-the-counter (OTC) medication that provides pieces of information about drug administration, store availability and location, drug facts, and a feature of a walk-in clinic directory that will help the audience to get immediate care should they need based on their location.

Project duration:
Six months project that started May 2023 to November 2023.

The problem:
OTCs are common in any pharmacy, but growing cases of product shortage result in severe and untreated ill children. In addition, incorrect administration of drugs and inappropriate medication could lead to disability or worst death of a patient. Moreover, most people are unaware of walk-in clinics available around their location.

The goal:
Develop an app and website that will provide information such as availability, administration, health risk and a walk-in clinic directory should a patient need immediate care or guidance to address their health concern.

My role:
UI/UX designer

Responsibilities
Conduct research and create (personas, user story, journey map), develop wireframing, and design low and high-fidelity prototyping from website to app.

Understanding The User

KidsMedHub is a mobile and web app created and developed to address the pain points of public  especially the parents who need proper health treatment information for their children. It’s a tool that informs the users and can assist quickly with their children’s minor health issues with walk-in clinics available within their area.

The research I conducted started with persona, defined the problem statement, if/then statement, interview transcript, journey map and a competitive audit.

Listed down all possible value propositions that will improve the health of children as a whole and bring a strong impact of improvement in favour of users and ROI of stakeholders.

User Research: Pain Points

No exclusive access to OTC kids medicines information

Users are unaware about the drug facts and proper administration and its effect if not carefully given the proper attention.

Product stock availability

Most pharmacies carry OTC product but user are frustrated if those items to pick up are not available in their location

Walk-in Clinic information

Patients are limited to book their appointment from their family doctor specially if overloaded booking. Unaware of walk-in clinics around in their area.

Don’t know where to ask to get information on buying kids medicine

No direct medical information of drugs and whereabout to purchase. Having an app will accurately save them time to drive in the right location.

Personas

Empathy Map

User Journey Map

The goal is to have quick access to OTC kids’ medicine and pharmacy information that has available stock.

Starting The Design

Initial drawings of ideas (Crazy 8) and turned into skeletal frames on a piece of paper with notes highlighting the outlined importance based on research.

Refining the design

Mockups | High-Fidelity prototype | Accessibility

Mockups

The website home page is transformed into a complete and finished product after all corrections and inputs were tackled from the usability study.

High-Fidelity Prototype

My final high-fidelity prototype presented a clear user flow for navigating the website.
